Beyond efficiency arguments for adult ESL (which are compelling), adult education is central to maintaining two of @lkatz42.bsky.social and Goldinโs virtues of U.S. public education: that itโs 1) a second-chance system 2) open to all learners. Donโt throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Awarding credit for prior learning can help make colleges more welcoming to students who arrive via alternative pathways, but institutions arenโt meeting college-ready GEDยฎ๏ธ graduates halfway.

Looks like a paper that will change our understanding of charter schools and where they are effective!
07.12.2024 03:13 โ ๐ 32 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Could lower an important barrier to entryโand a handful of methods cover the vast majority of QE studies. Would probably only require 4-6 templates max. Let me know if you are interested:

RIDIE is ๐ฏ, but has a narrow mission wrt impact evals in LMIC. It could be a fun+worthwhile exercise to put our heads together to design new, better method-specific QED pre-reg templates for a general-purpose registry like OSF. Would make pre-reg docs easier to use for QE research + easier to parse.
27.11.2024 17:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0imho RIDIE is the only registry that is truly friendly to QED studiesโmost other registries (Iโll add AsPredicted) allow/accommodate non-expts, but the templates for QE work are either boundlessly open-ended or dominated by experimental language that can make it feel like square peg + round hole.

24.11.2024 19:15 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0And re: pre-registration, projects that rely on restricted-use data are usually submitting proposals w/ most of the content of a pre-analysis plan anyway. Itโs more about โฌ๏ธ rigor/thoroughness (and frankly, stakes) of this step in the research process than creating new work from whole cloth.
