I unveiled this new design at @dinoconuk.bsky.social This is the first time I’ve combined two figures together to make a scene and I felt that the iconic fossil of these two would be perfect subject matter to try this out!

Now…I’m REALLY excited about this piece!

I loved how my recent pterosaur collection turned out and I didn’t really want to stop there, and now I’m taking a closer look at smaller pterosaurs hanging out together!

The sketch is complete, so now onto blocking the shapes out ✍🏼

This guy is the conclusion of my first series of pterosaurs…and I think it’s my favourite design!

I looked at a lot of modern day sea birds for inspiration of this design and I noticed a lot had simple colour palettes or strong lines so I felt this would be suitable for this pterosaur…but I couldn’t resist a flourish of colour on the crest tips!

I did originally think about putting a big ‘eye spot’ in the head crest of this pterosaur but I thought it would be interesting to look at how colours and subtle patterning could play a part in its display 👁️

The first of my pterosaur collection finished! It’s been interesting to think about the possible colouration/patterns these creatures would have had, especially when their jaws had such a large surface area!

Lyme Regis fossil festival 2025 🐚

Being a part of this festival is such a highlight of the year for me, I already can’t wait for next year.

It made my paleo-heart so happy to meet many like-minded people, seeing lots of new and familiar faces, as well as meeting many online friends in person 💙
