A green and a red gate with a small dog wearing a jacket peering through a window
Windloch- a leaning half timbered house over a small alleyway
Short walk around the Schnurrviertel in Minden, Germany- these colorful gates had a cat ramp, dog window, and chickens in the small yard behind. Also loved the leaning half timber structures.

Modern pomanders made with oranges and cloves
A painting of a historical pomander cage on a rosary
Just made orange and clove pomanders like we did growing up- I always found them odd but loved the scent! Turns out pomanders date back to the Middle Ages, used to ward off pestilence or simply as portable perfume. They were usually a ball shaped metal cage holding aromatics.

A painting of the Colosseum in ruins by Giovanni Paolo Panini (Italian, ca. 1692-1765).
When botanist Richard Deakin examined Romeβs Colosseum in the 1850s, he found 420 species of plant growing in the ruins: cypresses and ilex, pea plants and more than 50 types of grasses.
But some flowers growing there mystified him. They were so rare they were found nowhere else in Europe.

Meet the βgiantβ river crabs that live beneath Romeβs ancient ruins
Not much remains from the time Rome was only a marshy valleyβexcept the crabs that have taken over ancient canals.
Thanks for putting together this thread- really fascinating! I recently learned about a freshwater crab that also makes its home in the forum and Colosseum area, believed to be ancient inhabitants from back when the area was a marsh.

Iβd recommend learning Fair Isle colorwork for this since the color change per row would happen frequently and since there are two main colors.
With Fair Isle you basically move the active color forward and leave the passive color on the back of the work, so you donβt have to start and stop.

Can This Seal Save Her Pup From Drowning? | Asia | BBC Earth
Last night, I watched 'The Frozen North' episode of the new BBC Nature Asia series and was amazed how baby Baikal seals can survive under ice thanks to their mothers blowing air bubbles. Reminded me of the scene in Sanctum where the diver breathes air off the cave walls. youtu.be/auQ9VsXp9Ho?...

Digging Into PlantStudio, a Bit Late
This aesthetic screenshot of an old windows app has been in my inspiration space for ~5 years. Until recently, I assumed that it was just a nostalgia bait concept.
Recently stumbled across a blog post by @pketh.org about a tool called PlantStudio. Itβs like an early version of SpeedTree, focused on visualizing vegetation! Super impressed by the detailed parameters- such a cool intersection of landscape design/botany and computation.
