Scottish indie book publisher 404 Ink, run by Heather McDaid & Laura Jones-Rivera, will close next summer after ten trailblazing years. Starting with Nasty Women and known for their radical Inklings series, they’ve published titles by authors including Chris McQueer, Helen McClory and Alan Cumming.

I wrote a short piece about the legacy of David Lynch.

I’m genuinely tempted to turn this account into a dedicated David Lynch fan page from now on. I never want this all-out adoration to subside.

Now onto the deleted scenes from the special edition Blu-ray. I love that Lynch cared enough to properly curate the extra footage (as he did with Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me).

I started my David Lynch salve with Blue Velvet. I’d not seen it for many years but I think it might be my favourite; I can’t imagine changing a single scene. Dennis Hopper still terrifies me.

There seems to be no let-up on this David Lynch love-in. What a wonderful (however brief) moment this is. It still feels so raw to me but I’m preparing to watch Blue Velvet tomorrow. And I’m curating a pile of Blu-rays to devour over the next month. This will heal.

David Lynch (1946-2025)

I’ve loved reading the wall-to-wall tributes to David Lynch but it all feels too soon. Such a sad day.

I was at the first UK Mulholland Drive press screening (thanks to a friend). At the end there was a massive groan from the audience and I just thought, “I’ve no idea what just happened and I can’t discuss it with anybody.” I left with a massive headache. Good times.

Haha, depends on the day. Right now: Blue Velvet.

Great pick. But what a selection to choose from!

I’m very sad about the death of David Lynch and I don’t have much to say about it right now. I’m just glad I once got to meet him.

Eventually, I got a reply from the woman herself. Sarah emailed "Sorry Murray, I'm washing my hair tonight." 13/14

Even though just a few minutes had elapsed, my inbox was filling with replies from across the company: "Go for it Murray!!!" / "Who's Sarah?!" and so on. To compound matters, there were two Sarahs in the office so there were some confused replies asking me "Which Sarah?!" 12/14

When I got back in the office, I was confronted by a sea of grinning faces (the company occupied four floors and this one was the quietest so worse was still to come). I shuffled back to my computer. My boss said to me "Did you just go outside to find a hole to jump into?" 11/14

As soon as I got outside, I phoned my friend Pete and explained the situation. I was distraught with embarrassment. He said nothing; he just laughed down the phone at me for two whole minutes. I realised he wasn't going to help so I decided to go back in and face the music. 10/14

My first thought was to pull out the Ethernet cable from the back of my PC. Obviously, it was too late for that; could I somehow shut down the office server? I was desperate for a way out but I knew I had nothing left. So I casually stood up and slowly walked out the office. 9/14

I mistakenly double-clicked this icon rather than replying to Bobby, and my email instantly went to everyone in the company (about 75 people). I immediately knew what I'd done and I can clearly remember the feeling of abject horror and the rush of blood from my head. 8/14

Because of my job, I often needed to bulk email everyone in my office, so I'd established a workaround: an icon on my email client that I could double-click to send any message I was working on to everyone in the company. No prizes now for guessing where this is heading. 7/14

However, back then, email was still relatively new. It was cumbersome, and even something as simple as sending a message to multiple email addresses was surprisingly hard. 6/14

I replied to Bobby's email: "Dear Bob, I'll have a go at Caspar when I see him later. I'm going to ask out Sarah today." And then I clicked 'send'. 5/14

In the meantime, I'd received an email from my friend Bobby about how he'd ended up in an excruciating predicament thanks to our mutual friend Caspar. That's a good story too, but it's not mine to tell. 4/14
