Pointing out racism in books is not an ‘attack’ – it’s a call for industry reform | Monisha Rajesh I was called aggressive for criticising passages in Kate Clanchy’s memoir. But the real problem lies deep in the overwhelmingly white world of publishing

Directing to you all to this piece from 2021 in advance of the BBC and the Times maliciously raking up and rewriting painful history this week

Looking at the reaction to the Mamdani win, I sometimes wonder if some of my Indian friends hate Muslims more than they love India.

This is Journalism 101:

The BBC's Lucy Williamson: "What Israel sees as defence, many others now see as indefensible."

Unless she's a mindreader, how does she know Israel sees attacking hospitals as "defence" – and not, as its leaders keep saying, part of a genocidal plan.

That this is presented by the media as “policy” is why we are in this mess.

These are not serious people. These are monkey tennis ideas, as divorced from the reality of criminal justice as you might expect from a company fronted by multi-millionaire simpletons.

This renowned climate scientist says this is the most difficult time for climate science he’s ever seen Benjamin Santer has faced pushback on climate research in the past. But this environment feels different ‘because it's so targeted.’

“Scientists don’t have the Hippocratic oath that doctors do, but we should. If you see that harm to the stability of climate and to present and future generations is being caused, then, in my opinion, you have a moral and ethical responsibility as a climate scientist to speak out against that.”

Environment secretary ‘furious’ about England and Wales water bills Steve Reed says he is unable to rule out further above-inflation rises and any decision would be up to regulators

It's performative. If Steve Reed were really "furious" about water bills, he wouldn't have ruled out renationalisation, or forbidden the Independent Water Commission to recommend it. He enables the filthiest, most parasitic capital to defeat the public interest.

Wrong T-shirt son? You’re nicked The act which came into force this week could make terrorists of us all

In 2001, as the Terrorism Act 2000 came into force, I warned that it could be used to ban non-violent protest groups and imprison those who support them. Government spokespeople and cheerleaders told me I was talking rubbish.
And here we are.

It makes perfect sense. Billionaires make their money off of selling oil and weapons, no matter how much they destroy the environment and lives. They creates massive lobby groups to sway politicians (whose parties they've donated to) and their owned media promotes air travel. Presto.

As much as I can't understand how public road transport is so expensive, I can't understand why air travel is so heavily subsidised.

Britain: a frightened little country Britain's politicians are still dazzled by the notion of the 'special relationship' and are scared of losing America

From Churchill to Starmer, every PM has bowed to Washington.

Now we’re stuck watching global lawlessness unfold, unable to protest because we outsourced our backbone.

Crazy that people like Trump and Farage - who caused massive damage to their respective countries between 2016 and 2021 - have been welcomed back with open arms. All forgiven, and worshipped more than ever as saviours.

But they rip you off to the tune of £300m each.

Here is the single thing Labour can do to see off Reform and make British politics work | Will Hayward Farage’s party could win 42% of Commons seats with only 26% of the vote. That’s not the way civilised countries do democracy, says Guardian columnist Will Hayward

“Will Keir Starmer have the courage to do away with a system that gave his own party 63% of the seats on just 34% of the vote?”

...asks @willhaycardiff.bsky.social in @theguardian.com

“...if he is serious about putting country over party, he must.”
