#gdc is upon is. Will you be there? I do plan biz meetings in advance, but mostly I love to wander and see old friends. Make new friends.
Interested in connecting? Drop me a note.
Kind of like a red-team / blue team approach. I generally do this kind of thing informally... But it's probably worth my while to more formalize it as even the simplest things provide tons of value.
We also call this "rude questioning" which is critical to find weak arguments and strengthen others.

I said doing a million A/B tests->thousands of false positives & negatives.
We run 5 ppl A/B usability tests in Figma on UX & FTUE that help steer the ship, saving time & money.

Let's talk industry trends and strategy as we navigate, together, 2025 and beyond.
And, of course, I want to share all the amazing new things @uxisfine.com is up to.
We've grown with our trusted partners and can't wait to share our learnings and services with you.
Why do I love @uxisfine.com? Because I get to work with amazing people like Mike!

My bologna has a first name it's James. My bologna has a second name it's Vance. Because JD Vance has a way of effing up the USA.
Conference season is upon the world of #gamedev. I have a tough time placing names to faces. And don't always take notes because I get so engrossed in conversations...
Any tools/techniques y'all use to manage these - challenges - when socializing?

Selling off stock = de-risking strategy.
I am so excited to gear up for my 2025 travel. I look forward to sharing our vision and strategy with partners, new and old.
Get on my calendar early?

Thrilled to be involved in the @gameuxsummit.com again as an AMA participant re: jobs in the industry.
Y'all should show up - there's going to be a TON of great content and insights, shared by experienced folks who love to share.

Annual pilgrimage with my son to San Antonio and Heroes Retreat. He has a fave place in Austin, but this place feels like someoneβs basement.

It was the first game I ever worked on. I was on the publisher side @xbox.com ... After it shipped I left for BHG.
11.12.2024 16:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I talked re: giving Scout units a puppy to make them easier to spot in Rise of Nations.
We also spent a TON of time on the Sound UX. I remember Brian describing the solid meaty "thunk!" (click registered) vs. the short screech of "noff nuff resources."

If you haven't already read it... Treat yourself.
Especially of you love writing and editing and "The Elements of Style" is your jam.
Now I need to re-read that one, too.

Also: If WCA has a presence on Blueskie, please drop their linky in here. I couldn't find one.

Your post immediately made me want to re-read "The Elements of F*cking Style."
Thank you for that.

I've been tricked into clicking a link behind a paywall.
Understood subscriptions is your biz model.
But lifting the embargo on the occasional attract-mode post is a much better experience.
If I could SEE the ROI of a subscription then maybe I'd subscribe.
FOMO ain't gonna do it for me.
UX testing can be done affordably and effectively by even the smallest indie dev.
Clear success targets & right testing at the right time on the right platform.

When I joined Big Huge Games in 2003 we had to both ship an expansion to Rise of Nations and get a prototype for the next game out the door.
I instituted Margarita Mondays to help ease the pain.
Rise of Nations Scout Silhouettes. Emphasizing use of Dogs to make the units differentiated from peons.
"Board and pieces" design improves usability and delight.
Rise of Nations scouts were hard to differentiate from peons.
So, we added a dog. Usability and delight increased (puppies!)
However, nothing sadder than the sound of a dog dying :(

One of my fave case studies is a serious game that used a PS controller (users grew up gamers).
BUT, the developer mapped face buttons, shoulder buttons, and triggers in ways that made no sense to gamers.
And they used the sticks to pilot the helicopter in ways that still give me night terrors.
I remember being told not to lose a 16GB drive in the early/mid 2000s because it was so expensive to replace.
I used that damn thing for years (and still do).
Hard to imagine that we live in a world where 1TB is becoming standard.
Great studio... You should apply!
