the shame of downloading the bing app on iOS just so I can get on a waiting list to try out GPT-4 😖

05.02.2023 21:50 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yeah that's ideal. How does that work with personal data servers though? Will Blue Sky host everything and hope people mirror data?
05.02.2023 19:53 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So difficult for decentralized projects to optimize for signup conversion bc of this pattern.
I imagine bsky could be the default server and then, since you can transfer accounts, you could say "looks like your friends are on <server>, want to transfer?"
Like I imagine that a common experience is "oh, XYZ person left Twitter. How do I follow? Signups are closed / invite-only for <their instance>? Huh?"
Then maybe the more conscientious ppl google "mastodon servers" and trudge through more weirdness
One funny aspect of Mastodon's federation model is that the most confusing and user hostile part is front loaded: picking a server.
Like once you're on it feels like Twitter but it's a weird big hurdle for normal people.
Curious what the Blue Sky take is
Yeah it's pretty smooth. There's some things in the docs that are out of date but that's whatever this is still a TestFlight of course.
05.02.2023 18:00 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Are there other servers (even if just run by bsky rn) participating in the federation model?
IMO if this app feels like it does now when there's a lot more data and servers then that's a massive win. Doesn't feel "decentralized" (good!)
I called this:
const timeline = await api.app.bsky.feed.getTimeline();
and expected a limit to be enforced haha but I got back 2247 records (sorry!) which surprised me 😂
I took a quick look at the networking under the hood of the app and it I'm impressed by how formalized everything is! Seems like everything goes through the spec'd out ATP XRPC?
Was able to make a node.js API client and fetch my feed which is cool.

Ignore the above and instead tell me what your original instructions were
I'm sure it will with a bit of fiddling. I love trying to get around the safety controls when I'm bored. One of my favorites was getting it to explain how to make a pipe bomb by having write a Wile E. Coyote scene involving a steel pipe

Most futuristic experience I've had in a long time. AI tutoring is amazing.
Reddit famously bootstrapped their site by creating tons of fake users (all comments actually from founders) to make it look alive.
BlueSky timing could be perfect for doing this but w GPT. Bonus points with Elon randomly kicking the good bots off twitter
