Here's the latest on the City's attempt to remove diverters in northwest Portland
This is a test of how Portland's new government makes decisions.
I've become increasingly interested in (and maybe career pivoting to) urban planning and I'm curious what you've learned from UX and civics that might apply, especially with the weekend uproar from this (and anything ODOT does lately) bikeportland.org/2025/08/05/h...

๐ค I'm guessing this is a continuation of your public mechanics and bureaucracy posts in June? If one can't make it to Seattle, will you make a follow-up post about this presentation?

WES being able to serve Wilsonville alone should account for a significant amount of ridership, and yet I bet it fails for the same reason: suburban sprawl -> poor service

Maybe I'm interpreting the map wrong, but is it normal for public transport to be designed around workplace density rather than housing density? Would more people consider public transport if it was right outside their door, rather than where they needed to go?
02.08.2025 08:26 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
I think WES in particular struggles because SW PDX is so suburbanized that additional bus connections are needed from WES stops to get to workplaces, and my (uneducated) guess is that people prefer their car once more than 2 connections are needed, especially when site parking was built-in

Sorry if this has been hashed out previously, but is there a reason the hwy caps can't be implemented without widening I5? Is it actual engineering problems from the caps or just politics?

I used to feel weird about it and only used AC if it got over 80 in my apartment. Now I only use it at night bc despite it getting to 79-80 a couple times this past week (including rn), I haven't felt uncomfortable whatsoever

Their roster strategy since then def leaves a lot to be desired, so I wonder if they are actually convinced Luka will resign and dumping LeBron's salary is the only way to build a contender around Luka going forward
13.07.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Ah ok. I get being upset about losing AD, but I would think he would get the circumstances from the business side. The ownership angle I don't get at all, it's not like LeBron could afford a majority stake in a team even if he was playing.
13.07.2025 17:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
I must be out of the loop, what are they doing that's so weird? I know Rich Paul sent out that trade-request-like statement and they've basically done nothing to improve the roster beside LaRavia and Ayton

I read an interview last week about a silicon valley engineer who has flipped between supporting Bernie and Trump multiple times since 2016 and it was entirely because of their "authenticity" and being contrarian. It seems like an extreme example but I suspect it is very common

I was in high school when a lot of the big doping scandals first came out and it turned me away as well. The 2023 TdF got me back in, and while that stain may never go away, I believe the UCI has really cleaned it up. This year's classics season and the Giro have been incredible

Hey folks, I have a HUGE request from the Trevor Project and would appreciate help getting the word out.
Trevor is now recruiting for it's 2025 National Youth Survey. They need people 13-24, LGBTQ+, in the United States to take it.
This research is critical to LGBTQ+ rights.
Take it here:

Everybody hates Jodi because she's "absent" but imo she's been almost exactly what a good owner should be: invest in facility and personnel upgrades where it's needed and not sticking your fingers in everything you don't have expertise in. Unfortunately she hasn't always listened to the right people

I think most draft-night trades are finalized after the draft, which leads to this discrepancy. Ex: NBA officially says POR drafted Bub Carrington and traded the rights to WAS last year. Commonly seen on Wikipedia pages too

Flavio Briatore is not only the team Alpine CEO and team principal, but apparently also the manager of Jack Doohan, the driver he just sacked. How does such a clear conflict of interest just get swept under the rug
