31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Permanent striping and signal adjustments are also outstanding at the intersection of SW Fourth Avenue and West Burnside Street. PBOT hopes to be able to wrap up this work before the end of the year, but the work, particularly the striping, requires dry weather windows.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Major construction on SW Fourth Avenue is now mostly complete. ADA-compliant curb ramps, underground utility upgrades and paving are now complete corridor-wide. Some key work remains on the northern segment of the corridor, including permanent striping between SW Alder and West Burnside streets.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The new lane serves TriMet's Line 9, 12, 17, 19, 44, 291, and FX2. TriMet lines 12 and 44 will utilize a new transit island stop constructed as part of the project just north of SW Hall Street. Riders can check trimet.org for updates.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This supports the long term durability of the new pavement on SW Fourth Avenue by consolidating heavy buses into a reinforced concrete lane, reducing the likelihood of rutting and cracking over time. The dedicated lane also will increase the speed and reliability of bus service for transit riders.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Please follow the new traffic signals and signs, several of which were newly activated this week. On-street parking previously restricted due to construction has also been restored along both sides of the corridor between SW Lincoln and SW Jefferson streets.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0New Business Access & Transit (BAT) lane open on SW Fourth Avenue looking north toward SW Hall.
SW Fourth Avenue's new bus and turn lane between SW Grant and SW Mill streets is also open. People driving northbound on SW Fourth Avenue wishing to turn left in this segment should do so from that lane. @trimet.org riders will benefit from it starting today, Friday, Oct. 31.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Paired with the southbound protected bike lane on SW Broadway, this project creates a downtown cycling couplet prioritized in the Central City in Motion plan.
In the weeks ahead, PBOT will continue to open the new bike lane to the north as construction allows.
New bicycle signal at the intersection of SW Fourth Avenue and SW Caruthers Street allows cyclists to transition from the right side bike lane from SW Barbur to the left-side protected bike lane on SW Fourth Avenue to the north.
People biking northbound will use a new bike signal at the intersection of SW Fourth Avenue and SW Caruthers Street to transition from the right side of the street into the left-side protected bike lane that will ultimately connect all the way to West Burnside Street and into Old Town.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Map shows active construction area on SW Fourth Avenue, alongside newly opened bus and bike facilities.
What's open now? The new protected bike lane is now open between SW Caruthers Street and SW Taylor Street. People biking north on SW Barbur Boulevard can now use the new protected bike lane that begins just south of I-405 to bike into the heart of downtown.
31.10.2025 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0PBOT Construction Manager and Inspector look on as new bus and bike signal heads are activated at the intersection of SW Fourth Avenue and SW Hall Street.
Southern segment of the SW Fourth Avenue Improvement Project now open!
We're excited to announce that we've substantially completed work on the southern segment of the SW Fourth Avenue Improvement Project, with new bike and bus lanes opening this week.

Add some reflective, bright, and shiny glow to your costume!
Letβs make Halloween fun and safe for everyone in Portland. Tap this link to learn more about traffic safety: portland.gov/transportation/vision-zero.
A person in a zebra costume with an orange reflective jacket pulls a wagon with a large sign that reads "Slow down save lives"
Everyone out celebrating: People often overestimate how visible they are at night. Reflective clothing, accessories, and gear can make you visible to drivers up to 500 feet away β compared to just 55 feet in dark clothing. Thatβs 10x more visibility!
30.10.2025 23:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Drivers: Expect people walking, biking, and rolling throughout the evening, especially on neighborhood streets. Drive at or below the speed limit and be ready to stop for anyone crossing.
30.10.2025 23:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In dark conditions, itβs harder for people driving to see others on the street. Last year, 83% of Portlandβs traffic deaths happened between dusk and dawn. Driving slower and staying focused gives you more time to see people nearby and stop in time.
30.10.2025 23:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This reminder comes after three deadly crashes in East Portlandβs Hazelwood and Gateway neighborhoods in the past 24 hours.
30.10.2025 23:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Stay safe this Halloween, Portland!
As the days grow darker and trick-or-treaters fill neighborhood streets, PBOT urges everyone to slow down, stay alert, and look out for people walking, biking, and rolling: www.portland.gov/transportati...

Car being towed during a Leaf Day in a tow zone.
Don't get towed! If you park a car on the street in Northwest Portland, Goose Hollow or Sullivan's Gulch, your car may be towed on Leaf Day to clear the way for a clean sweep. Mark your calendar and move your car, so you don't get towed!
30.10.2025 19:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Get prepared by raking your leaves into the street, the day before your service, pulling your leaf pile at least a foot away from the curb. Don't place branches, grass clippings or other yard debris in your pile, but pine & fir needles are OK. Remove your vehicle from the street, or out of the zone.
30.10.2025 19:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Know your Leaf Day. Check our Leaf Day website (link in bio) to verify which Leaf Day zone you are in. Enter your address to find your service date and zone.

It's important for everyone who lives or works in a Leaf Zone to know how to prepare for Leaf Day -- especially the thousands of Portlanders who are getting the service for the first time this year π
30.10.2025 19:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0After Saturday, the service continues, covering a few neighborhoods each day, six days a week, through mid January, with a break for holidays including Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
30.10.2025 19:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Snapshot from PBOT's interactive map of Leaf Day zones shows some East Portland neighborhoods that will receive the service for the first time this year.
Thanks to additional funding from the City Council, PBOT is undertaking its largest expansion of Leaf Day service in modern memory. The service will cover 82 zones, up from 53 zones of various sizes that historically had the service. New zones were added in each of the four City Council Districts.
