This sounds simple, but itβs not as easy as flipping a switch. Staff went out on before the festival began to modify the circuits, allowing the exhibits to stand out in the darkness. It was a simple touch to add a little more to the February event that helps make Portland great.

This project is part of a larger body of work to install crosswalks and ADA curb ramps along segments of the Safe Routes to School priority network located within the Portland Public Schools (PPS) district. Funding for this work come from a voter-approved bond for PPS for school improvements.

Filling potholes is a band aide and often, the pothole returns. Without dedicated funding, we canβt do the better more robust fixes that many of our streets required.

The cost of transportation construction has gone up, and funding hasn't increased to pay for it. Every year we receive requests we cannot fulfill to create a safer system because we do not have the funds, a frustrating situation for city leaders, Portland residents, and PBOT workers.

Itβs our job to maintain the nearly 5,000 lane miles of asphalt in the city, however, after decades of underfunding we find ourselves with $6.6 billion in deferred maintenance costs. The longer we wait to repair our transportation assets, the more expensive and expansive the problems get.

Potholes are universally hated (we hate them, too!), but theyβre also inevitable. Potholes form when water seeps into tiny cracks in the asphalt. Then, as water freezes and thaws, holes form. Thatβs why so many potholes pop up after a winter storm.
