it's a crime obviously-satirical-but-not-great-at-it my immortal got enough serious attention for a wikipedia article when "john freeman who was gordon freemans brother was one day in an office typing on a computer" so elegantly compresses a half-dozen novice writer mistakes into an opening sentence

it's mostly the old version but there's some interesting stuff in there like "yume pov: akira morii rescues you from being hit by a car" and "ayako runs into rui while shopping and awkwardly takes her to a cafe trying to figure out what's going on with asuka"

actually that makes me think again about all the mizuno/morii family swap AUs. i'm not sure if "asuka is keiko's daughter + pines for ayako, her best friend's mom" is an upgrade in any way that justifies it being less spicy. maybe i subconciously want a better version of the jk x classmate mom manga

asuka's cooking arc inexplicably increasing meal quantity and not quality au. by volume 5 she is bringing half-burnt hamburger steaks in large pizza boxes to her mom's work. how she pan-fries these whole remains mysterious. keiko eats most + enviously complains rui only makes "fancy meals for ants"

i totally hate tagging and usually tag themes and never story elements but the culture of doing so makes a thousand times more sense through this lens even if it’s rare and usually misleading to tag future content

that fics aren’t beholden to market pressure or editorial sculpting or content restrictions or genre conventions and can just be expressive art is wonderful but it means the core of what a story is can shift and wander so erratically it’s hard to wrap your head around

i am so unbelievably suspicious of longfics now that i completely understand when there’s like no reader interaction. writing up a huge glowing comment or two and then watching something veer completely off the rails like six chapters in is soul crushing

every time i think about the limits of mtl i remember the poor translator who, seemingly unfamiliar with the ○○○しないと出られない部屋, translated ○○○しないと出られない百合 as "the yuri that doesn't come out without ○○○". though i guess the whole setting probably should have clued them in there

ok to be fair after reading one of these she's like "hmm if i ever see my sister again we should really have a baby together like our moms did" unprompted so i think that counts as like 10 fics. experts call this the kinshin ninshin multiplier

i don't care about these characters enough to fix this but in my mind they are just out there kissing on sister yuri planet
