Stayed in Houffalize at the big hotel there for several weeks while we excavated a B-26 crash site in the area for DPAA. I frequently would walk or run up to that CWGC plot for that Lancaster crew.

Interesting, have you run across other posters for the Republican Air Force?

(My initial interest was the air war over Spain, but that of course led me down the rabbit hole of the entirety of the war)

Unidentified WWI soldier exhumed from Wausau cemetery as agencies work to identify man The veteran died by suicide in 1930 and left a note that did not contain his name. He was buried with military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau.

A project our team at the @uwmadison.bsky.social Missing in Action Recovery and Identification Project helped with last week:

Only stumbled upon it a few years ago and it has been a yearly listen for me.

Last year I listened to it on Christmas night in a dense fog while walking around the airfield at workโ€ฆtalk about ambiance fitting the occasionโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The group I volunteer with at @uwmadison.bsky.social has done several successful archaeology excavations (terrestrial) and recovered US airmen in France and Belgium as a DPAA partner (in fact we were the first University partner). It is intensely gratifying but very challenging work.

The RAF allowed โ€œvintageโ€ airmen on ops?

There was a story on @npr.org this past week as well. Rare to see archaeology hitting the regular press, but welcome all the same.

I knew a guy in Resources Management at Grand Canyon in the early โ€˜90โ€™s that knew Abbey and apparently served as something of an inspiration for one of the characters in the โ€œMonkey Wrench Gangโ€, his memory seemed ever present in those days at GRCA

Thatโ€™s not a โ€œcrashโ€ (!)

Thatโ€™s a nicely executed forced landing.
