‘Absurdist leaps of logic’: Robodebt misused in FOI reforms I am furious. Angry, certainly, about the federal government’s proposed freedom of information laws, which mock the very idea of transparency, but seething especially about the justification for them,...

The dishonesty around the use of Robodebt in prosecuting the government’s Freedom of Information secrecy drive is galling in the extreme. I set out some facts that deflate the specious claims being used as cover. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/comment/topi...

Hold the Senate floor, read Virginia Guifrees memoir from cover to cover, every 10 pages, switch to a new Senator. The facts need to be recorded in the Senate Chamber and on record. That’ll get MalarkeyMike & friends back in town.

Alexei Sayle talks to Stewart Lee
YouTube video by British Comedy Guide Alexei Sayle talks to Stewart Lee

Such a wonderful fragment. Rewatching for the infamous coffee twist 3 mins in and it sparked so many thoughts. There was an idea when McDonald's opened in Moscow that it showed why democracy was best, turns out it just showed the tyrants the missing piece they needed

Sound UP! When a gang of young male Superb Lyrebirds surround you, often within less than a metre. I zoomed back to 80mm but often had to lean back to get this footage. I've left it largely unedited to capture the mayhem of the moment. #birds #birding #nature #lyrebirds

Porous and breezy suits a tropical (or sub-tropical) city, but would the layout be too open for an often windy place like Sydney?

Of all the housing charts not made by MMI, this one is my favourite. It shows how, despite rhetoric, housing shortages aren't a global phenomenon, but they do seem to be an Anglo-American one.

Again, Prof. Gershman is doing his best to fight the “ethical challenges” framing here, but what’s wrong here is not that the President and his friends are facing some sort of “ethical challenge”. What’s wrong is that they are trying to steal two hundred and thirty million dollars in broad daylight.

The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.

When former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych fled the country following the 2014 Maidan revolution, Ukrainian citizens who stormed his Mezhyhirya mansion discovered a palace of cartoonish opulence with guilded bathrooms, a private zoo, and a floating restaurant in the shape of a pirate ship. A good illustration of this extravagance is the $11 million he allegedly paid for a chandelier and his seven tablecloths worth a staggering $13,000.

This private opulence was all paid for with public money. Embezzlement in the Yanukovych era is said to have taken the form of theft, corruption in public procurement, rigged energy prices, and misuse of carbon-emissions allowances.
