My apologies then Tristan
I stand corrected and will remove the post.
It was badly worded on my part.
You are right to say not everyone wants to live in cities.

Indeed
That was the point of the answer.
Where public transit is good (usually major cities) you do not need a car :-)
I go hear you Martin, london is crazy for rents etc. But concept of living without a car in a major urban area with decent public transit was the gist.
I lived for 6 years in Paris and walked or took the Metro. But agree rural areas and many towns and small cities in UK have limited options :-(
Well yes, but also any other urban area which takes public transportation serious - there a shed load to mention like #Paris (well, most French cities), #Berlin (well: most of Germany), actually most European cities, most Chinese cities andβ¦.New York (but just a handful of other US urban areas).

King of #Trance Anthems Dave Pearce: 1st interview on Cultural Heroes mini-series part of my CATCH-cast podcast. Dave reveals inspirations from Sylvester to #GrandmasterFlash, 70s synths to pirate radio & describes #Radio1 #danceanthems days. Really good listen: www.vectisradio.com/podcast/catc...
01.08.2025 16:07 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Totally agree with this post. Why can't Britain deliver big infrastructure projects without three-quarters of the cost being leeched off to consultants & inflated salaries/bonuses? It's effectively legalised corruption and theft of state money for private pockets isn't it?
01.08.2025 08:49 β π 17 π 3 π¬ 3 π 0Good spot Mac. Just wondering about the signage in Chicago though too - do they not give an idea about street numbers sometimes? Not had enough time when visiting to know if this is true or not but what do these numbers mean on their signs if not building numbers on the streets nearby?
27.07.2025 08:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Blimey just the sight of that woman pushing the hoover and shaking the packet - even with the audio off - made me remember the darn tune!
Howβs that for subliminal advertising?!
Find out how London's famous 'roundel' was almost lost in 1933 when London Passenger Transport Board was formed. @historyniall.bsky.social talks about the key protagonists of the quasi-nationalised LPTB. 6pm, VectisRadio, 104.6FM, and afterwards on the podcast: www.vectisradio.com/podcast/catc...

Such great childhood memories of those beautiful gardens because my dad worked in the Rainbow Room restaurant and we were often left waiting for him wanting the gardens looking at the flamingos or playing hide and seek when all the lying customers had departed.
Great to see this article by Richard Baird on one of my all-time favourite #transport logos. www.logohistories.com/p/greater-ma...
Real treat for graphic design fans and #transit geeks. Bravo Richard!
Hang on! Why keep subsidising road use but rail fares keep going up above inflation? End the fuel duty freeze now!

18.07.2025 07:45 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Private rail companies are trying to sneek in though the back door to cherry pick profitable routes ahead of their franchises going back into public ownership. This is a travesty. Ask the Transport Secretary to stop this now! weownit.org.uk/news/stop-pr...
16.07.2025 08:36 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 5 π 1East London in Circles! Max Roberts has made a proof of concept for his all-London railways map on #Kickstarter. Compared with the official Tube Map, he's added 3 lines, and 7 new stations. He claims it's more geographically accurate than the official design, which goes a bit crazy in places.
14.07.2025 15:24 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Very revealing map by Chris: the number of cancelled, delayed or deferred projects shows the low esteem #rail is held in. No wonder we are getting so little economic growth.

First time spotting these horrendous door closing warning vinyls on an #Overground train in London. Apart from blocking the view from inside they also look garish on the outside. Surely to goodness they are a little OTT? What do you think?
