Where public transit is good (usually major cities) you do not need a car :-)

I go hear you Martin, london is crazy for rents etc. But concept of living without a car in a major urban area with decent public transit was the gist.
I lived for 6 years in Paris and walked or took the Metro. But agree rural areas and many towns and small cities in UK have limited options :-(

Well yes, but also any other urban area which takes public transportation serious - there a shed load to mention like #Paris (well, most French cities), #Berlin (well: most of Germany), actually most European cities, most Chinese cities and….New York (but just a handful of other US urban areas).

Totally agree with this post. Why can't Britain deliver big infrastructure projects without three-quarters of the cost being leeched off to consultants & inflated salaries/bonuses? It's effectively legalised corruption and theft of state money for private pockets isn't it?

Good spot Mac. Just wondering about the signage in Chicago though too - do they not give an idea about street numbers sometimes? Not had enough time when visiting to know if this is true or not but what do these numbers mean on their signs if not building numbers on the streets nearby?

Such great childhood memories of those beautiful gardens because my dad worked in the Rainbow Room restaurant and we were often left waiting for him wanting the gardens looking at the flamingos or playing hide and seek when all the lying customers had departed.

East London in Circles! Max Roberts has made a proof of concept for his all-London railways map on #Kickstarter. Compared with the official Tube Map, he's added 3 lines, and 7 new stations. He claims it's more geographically accurate than the official design, which goes a bit crazy in places.

Very revealing map by Chris: the number of cancelled, delayed or deferred projects shows the low esteem #rail is held in. No wonder we are getting so little economic growth.

First time spotting these horrendous door closing warning vinyls on an #Overground train in London. Apart from blocking the view from inside they also look garish on the outside. Surely to goodness they are a little OTT? What do you think?
