i'm going with the rebrand theory, given people working on the show have wanted to change the name for about 20 years. Moreso, its sister show Kamen Rider is literally working towards an international audience with the current season, Zeztz.

i've always said that Davies fell ass-backwards into serial storytelling; the Bad Wolf messaging across the episodes was due to stagehands doing tagging, and he took that and decided to use it for the ending. At which point from then on it was mentions, then everything in the last 2 eps.

And stuff that is either too popular or not popular enough will get shifted between magazines in order to better fit its role; Nana & Kaoru got shifted to the main magazine after proving the most popular in the side one, while a few shonen have gone from the main weekly mag to a different monthly.

Sometimes stuff gets revisited or revived if its stuff still sells outside of the published main book; Shaman King's an example of something that got ended early due to polls, but still sold well and thus got allowed to try and print a new ending and continuation.

you have it about right; i suggest reading Bakuman as a manga, it goes into the details of the industry, the good and the bad. Basically, it is rare for a manga to end when its creator wants it to end; usually it gets a few chapters to end if it gets too low in reader polls.
