I took a policy class in graduate school and this fact was hammered into us over and over again. At this point it seems like a settled question.

Golden Gulag and Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s entire body of work really helps explain this particular moment where the state is building its police and detention capacity while impoverishing the populace.
