Agree. I also wonder about the additional role of video games. Lots of exposure time, no subtitles (for small languages?) and emergence at about the same time as cable TV. Take-up is probably lower and more uneven though

New study: The relative wage premium for going to college has halved for low-income Americans since 1960.
What is to blame? Rising selectivity? Tuition hikes? State disinvestment? We decompose changes in the premium since 1900 to find out.

As I am now handling papers at AEJ:Policy again, I want to encourage authors of papers that identify partial equilibrium effects to consider (in a rigorous manner) how they relate to policy effects or general equilibrium effects.

Following up on early investments? Let me tell you about one of my papers on exactly this: We study a large government trial in the 1960s with preventive toddler care. Copenhagen assigned 10% of toddlers to universal nurse home visits not only in the first year (default) but also in year 2 and 3.

Do women earn less than men because they are less competitive? This awesome paper by @ErnestoReuben, Paola Sapienza, and @zingales shows that once we measure earnings some years after graduation, competitiveness does not explain the gender gap (or predict earnings) 🧵 1/7

Ok guys here's the point.
Diff in Diff is a model based assumption that identifies the ATT (unless you're using random timing of rollouts, but almost noone is).
It is model-based because you make assumptions to identify the OUTCOME MODEL in the *absence* of the treatment.
