Besides the obvious “they don’t”, I have to imagine a lot of it is that if they don’t burn through their absurd budget, there’s the slightest chance the county might *gasp* start asking why they’re getting that much money.

I think another way to say this is: “winning” is still possible, but it will absolutely not look like how I imagined it 4 years ago

They literally made a children’s movie whose whole message was explicitly “happy/sad feelings are two sides of the same coin and that’s what gives life richness”. It’s hard not to just feel bad for how stunted this thinking is.

I feel like “mind virus” literally means “made me think about feelings that are complicated”. I can think of *maybe* one book I’ve ever read that gave me sorrowful feelings that weren’t also accompanied by some sort of hope or inspiration (and I wouldn’t consider it particularly great writing)

Like, if I got the sense he was sticking to his guns on a core belief and was ok with backlash…that’d be one thing. But this mindset of “if everyone is kind of mad I must be on the right track” is dumb, ESPECIALLY as an electoral tactic.

They don’t want to identify problems because then people might expect you to solve them. Much better to throw your arms in the air and make a buck selling new age patent medicine to people suffering from that mysterious rise in cancer.

No offense intended to you or other folks I know doing incredible work as sustainability and green building consultants, but the biggest own goal that movement had was letting the perception lock in that these are boutique services and optional practices 😞

Please don’t get discouraged (I’ll try to take my own advice), because we desperately need way more architects and MEP folks willing to pick fights over this stuff (including, frankly, with their clients)
