There is a key role for Internet platforms - including AI companies - to help mitigate public safety risks. But user monitoring and potential over-reporting conduct to police raises serious privacy concerns too. Need enforceable, transparent standards that strike a balance.

Liberal MP Bruce Fanjoy criticizes government's latest return-to-office order | CBC News
Bruce Fanjoy, the Liberal MP for Carleton, has broken ranks with his party to criticize the federal government's latest return-to-office (RTO) mandate.
As someone in what is often called by federal public servants as "the regions", I really hope the government listens to MP Fanjoy and reconsiders their RTO mandate, especially when it actually means "return to Ottawa". We need more faces from the federal government in communities across Canada.

No plans to end hybrid work for City of Edmonton staff, despite calls for return to office | CBC News
While thousands of public and private sector employees will be back in the office in February, many city of Edmonton employees will continue their hybrid work arrangements.
The developer quoted in this article is absurd. As if you'd ever be allowed to "pop-in" unannounced to City offices if everyone was in office everyday. For security reasons, the only place you can do that is the service centre, and that's already open all business days.

I really wonder about this push in media to pump up the separatist movement. The last byeldction they contested, they came in behind the NDP. In Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, ferchrissakes. And thatβs probably a high water mark for support.

Statistics Canada to trim 850 jobs as public servants, unions brace for more cuts | CBC News
Federal workers are starting to learn more about planned job cuts across the public service after Statistics Canada told employees on Monday that 850 positions will be eliminated from the department o...
This is really annoyingly vague reporting. What functions are being cut/discontinued? What specific services will we see less of as a result of these cuts? Not addressed at all in the article. Labour reporting should be more than a collection of employer and union quotes.

Not pissing off Elon Musk and Canadaβs right-wing tech bros is far more important to Evan Solomon than protecting Canadians from deepfake sexual abuse and acting on child sexual abuse material.

Would you buy the argument that it was a legitimate arrest if they had?
05.01.2026 18:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Unless "arrest" is put in scare quotes, I'm not sure what your point is. Miranda rights seem pretty insignificant in comparison to bombing a foreign country and kidnapping their leader.
