14.05.2025 19:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You should consider one of those Nakamichi Dragon cassette decks. They are mechanically fascinating and supposedly sound fantastic
14.05.2025 07:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Whatβs the tariff on Australia? If it is higher, I suggest they simply put Heard and Macdonald as country of origin. Dumb wonβt notice

03.04.2025 08:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have the exact same reaser, and the timer was already defective when I got it. Never missed it though.
03.04.2025 08:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Surely this can be resolved with a bend paper clip toucing an edge connector at the back of someting
25.03.2025 09:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A repair I do over and over again and seriously dislike is trying to fix my chip puller. Dang, thatβs annoying when it goes apart
24.03.2025 19:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How to fix the most common errors in a commodore 1530 datasette:

Retro repairs going meta: Spending more time repairing the gear used to do retro repairs, than you spend on doing retro repairs.
24.03.2025 19:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Indeed an unusual repair job on a C16. Compared to the C64, the average C16 repair must be 1/10 of the time due to all the major ICs being socketed and the CPU accouting for 90% of the errors.
20.03.2025 07:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How do you change a drive belt in a 1530 datasette? I have written a new blog post www.retrotrade.dk/2025/03/17/r...

I just need to share this video for the very thorough explanation on how RAM worked in the early home computers:

When I buy a lot from a smoker, I use magic erasers to remove the smell.

18.02.2025 08:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I got one of these this very weekend. I have been using a HANTEK HE6022 for a year or so due to lack of space on my desk. The hazzle of getting it connectd to the laptop made me consider this option instead.
Have you come across any serious limitations and did you update the firmware?
And @factorofmatt.bsky.social, a suggestion for your roadmap: What about doing a new diag cart which provides more detail on th failed tests that the original? n/n
05.02.2025 09:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One of the issues with the trouble shooting carts is that you don't know exactly what the tests do, and how to interpret the results. Having the opportunity to link symptoms with parts would take it way further. 2/n
05.02.2025 09:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@factorofmatt.bsky.social @janbeta.net @adriansdigitalbasement.com Would it make sense to make a "pictorial fault guide" with DeadTest/Diagnostics/DesTestMax inserted, i.e. where you link observed behavior to specific parts? (1/n)
05.02.2025 09:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I can recommend doing some 1541 repair videos. 1541s are quite interesting to work on as they are quite versatile compared to the c64 itself
03.02.2025 12:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I suppose this has something to do with using the DesTestmax in SL mode. Are you planning a video to demonstrate this feature? Would be interesting
28.01.2025 11:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I got the mechboard from them too and have to admit that I'm not overly impressed by the quality. The asssembly instructions are non existent despite were much needed. I haven't been able to mount the Return key the intended way.
22.01.2025 10:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You should do more 1541 /1541-II repairs. They are interesting to work on, and there are som many new problems to discover there. While the c64 seems to be conquered wilderness, the 1541 remains more upstream amazonian.
20.01.2025 07:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You mention that the 555 is your favourite chip. COuld you put some words on what makes it so special?
03.01.2025 08:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Your openness is much appreciated
25.12.2024 14:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Metal shielding and perhaps a 250425 board
19.12.2024 07:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They surely aren't meant for typing, as the case feels relatively soft. But all case variants had their flaws. The breadbins tend to crack in thetop left corner just above the 1-key.
19.12.2024 07:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They are rarer for sure, but the rarest C64C case is without doubt the case where the badge is replaced by a beveled logo molded into the plastic
19.12.2024 07:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have an interesting 250407-board with no V-sync signal despite a working VIC-II. I have seen it occassionaly on boards that had an 8701 (and a dead one). I have only seen it twice on earlier boards, including on a KU-board. I am wondering whether this perhaps could be the modulator.
