Most of designated persons are targeted for links with jihadis groups, while other are politicians or former political responsibles, confirming that antiterrorist measures tend to be used by governments to crack down opponents.

This adoption confirms a regional trend, as Mali (Jan2024) and Niger (Aug2024) did the same. Based on UN Security Council resolution 1373, these sanctions regimes impose asset freeze measures and a prohibition of making funds and resources available to the designated persons.
