This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical

Elected officials don’t have to be experts in research funding or many other specialized areas of knowledge. They do need to respect the knowledge of the actual experts in the areas they are considering, however, to rule wisely.

Scientific leaders know this, which is why tri-council funding agencies ask questions about whether/how your research addresses sex & gender, and asks how you enact EDI within your research team. It’s why some grants are rebalanced to ensure representation & French applns are allowed to be longer.

Parliament reviews EDI for research grants - University Affairs Witnesses testify for and against applying diversity criteria to scientific funding.

Highly concerning that parliament is even discussing this. Equitable access to scientific training and employment, and demonstrating knowledge & integration of relevant EDI issues in your science are key to smart public investment in research.

More #Malinformation and media manipulation here.

Extra deception/confusion points for using "Antifa" properly as an abbreviation for antifascism in the headline and then implying in the subhead that "antifa" is a membership organization of some sort.

The people showing up to protest in inflatable animal costumes are doing way way better resistance counter-propaganda than any of the left-wing militia defense types who show up to civil defense actions in their cosplay operator gear.

Gonna start calling these guys the inflada.

CNN is using a photo from the 1992 L.A. Riots to illustrate the "insurrection" in Portland OR better portrayed by puppets and bike lanes than fire.
This is complex malinformation; technically the caption identifies this actual photo, it but it is being used out of context to mislead people.

I don't blame patients who get confusing results and seek to sensemake; this is normal.
I also don't think restricting test result access is the answer; I don't think it's possible to walk back & pt access has IDed a lot of missed dx.
We need to figure out how to improve the system (not users).

I am honestly horrified at how common it seems to be to feed medical test results into ChatGPT for interpretation. We need to find ways to provide better patient-facing interpretation in a timely manner. People are making decisions about their health, diet, etc. based on a babble generator.

Contributor: I'm an intersex professor. Am I supposed to lie by teaching 'only male and female'? A campaign against teachers who acknowledge realities of human biology forces a choice: Teach truth and risk your job, or lie and maybe keep it.

This is an excellent piece from @georgianndavis.bsky.social on the wave of anti-scientific censorship sweeping the country and what it means to teach honestly in the moment.

Hoax threats disrupt more than a dozen colleges this week Hoax calls on Tuesday morning to 11 schools is estimated to have affected over one million students and cost $60 million to campus operations.

I am not seeing much coverage of this but since Aug US colleges/universities have seen an unusually high # of swatting incidents & bomb threats. HBCUs have been disproportionately targeted. If one wanted to look at wasted resources & domestic terror this would be a prime example.
