Diagram showing all uric acid lowering therapies MoA

Figure 1 Title: Summary of common urate-lowering therapies and their mechanisms of action, Legend: Allopurinol and febuxostat are xanthine oxidase inhibitors, reducing the rate of uric acid production. Rasburicase and pegloticase are recombinant uricases that promote conversion of uric acid to allantoin, which is readily excreted in the urine. Probenecid is a nonspecific inhibitor of URAT1 to a much greater extent than OAT1, OAT3, and GLUT9 with a net effect of uricosuria. Dotinurad is a specific URAT1 inhibitor, inhibiting proximal tubular reabsorption of uric acid thereby promoting uricosuria. UA: uric acid; GLUT: glucose cotransporter; NPT: sodium-dependent phosphate transport protein; ABCG2: ATP-binding cassette subfamily G; OAT: organic anion transporter; URAT: uric acid transporter.

Dotunirab - URAT-1 inhibitor which prevents uric acid reabsorption = uricosuric

Estimating global article processing charges paid to six publishers for open access between 2019 and 2023 This study presents estimates of the global expenditure on article processing charges (APCs) paid to six publishers for open access between 2019 and 2023. APCs are fees charged for publishing in some ...

Fascinating read on the ever frustrating topic of publication fees: this paper estimates that between 2019 and 2023 researchers and institutions paid a whopping USD $8.968 billion for their findings to be freely accessible and that costs tripled during that time πŸ’°

This is what I am worried about too, Graham. The large volume of patients in CA and especially here as you know who rely on emergency Medi-Cal for dialysis is enormous

Hey #NephSky anyone ever heard of orthotopic kidney transplant (nephrectomy & transplant combined)? Have a patient with a good match living donor but poor femoral vessel targets due to calcium. Been turned down twice for kidney transplant surgery due to calcified vessels.
