Columbia PhD graduate in regalia.

Columbia PhD graduate in regalia.

Hello all! Does anyone have the Columbia Phd hood, and if so, could I borrow it? I need to wear regalia to my university's graduation May 17 and 18. I have the velvet tam and the gown, I just need the royal blue hood. Thank you!

To mark "Trump will declare a national emergency for mass deportations" day: here is the initial spreadsheet of our crowd-sourced *local* immigration advocacy/support organizations.

Please share widely, put to good use, and keep letting me know about more organizations folks can connect with.

You should go to the Whitney to see the Ailey exhibit they have right now. Just saw it Friday night. Itโ€™s incredible.

A puzzle drawn in black and blue felt tip pen.
In the bottom left is a square with area 5. Lined up on top of this original square is the second square, which is exactly the same size. Touching these two on their right is a larger third square, which is as tall as the first two put together. And on the right of the third square is the fourth and largest square - we canโ€™t tell exactly how large this one is compared to the others.
The following three points are joined to create the blue triangle: the top left corner of the original square, the top right corner of the second square, and the top right corner of the largest square.

Four squares. Whatโ€™s the area of the blue triangle?

This is another of my all-time favourite puzzles. Written on a day when the weather was too bad to go outside, so it seems appropriate for today! How would you solve it?

Grateful for friends that can cook. This meal was GOOD! Landon throws down in the kitchen. And I love that the kids ask me for math problems as soon as I arrive!

This blog post really moved me. Last week I made some space for my own humanity with students (not easy for me to do), and in doing so, students made space for their own humanity. Making space for humanity is an important part of building communities of care in our classrooms.
