went to a lorwyn eclipse pre-release this weekend (dont ask me how i did (it was very bad)), but it threw my brain one bajilion percent back into card game mode. still on my fuck wotc arc, and ive been itching to pick up a japanese style game (cards as life, etc) so its optcg time.

hello chagg... i have been swamped with school work for the past few weeks, and for the forseeable future. All i have had time for is a wee bit of rpg character development, all I will say for now is that she is cool af, updates to come, maybe, gamedev will return when I have any spare brain energy

Looking at getting into solo ttrpgs, anyone got recs for systems? I typically like a good bit of crunch and would prefer systems with some handholding, this being my first game after all

ITS MY FIRST #screenshotsaturday (im not late you are). not much to show graphics wise, but I have what I think is a functioning lexer like thing for my scene files, very primative but functional, each block of text between // is essentially a token. we'll see what happens when I start parsing it...

who woulda thunk it, text based games are harder then they look to program. You don't see that under the surface its basically doing the same thing that a programming language interpreter does. compound that with learning a new lang (ocaml (its fucking awesome btw)) and things get challenging fast

its not 1 am and i am not learn Ocaml by brute force... I may have the beginnings of a file parser for game scenes

I agree 100% adding shit w/o purpose ruins games. however, i think that large sprawling games absolutely can be awesome, caves of cud or dwarf fortress for example are absolute master classes of games and they are full of stuff, but it is all synergistic and adds to the whole, not just buzzwords

Forgot to post abt this on release, but new lorna shore album is fucking brutal. I dont care if it sounds samey or boring, its consistantly a very solid album, and will ramos has elevated his vocals, especially his highs, the high screams in oblivion are so fvucking good.

the more you put into a game, the less interesting it is. "open world action gunplay swordfighting RPG roguelike" means nothing. I could list a dozen AAA games that fall into this exact definition. And it's not like I don't like those things, I just don't like having all of it at once. It dilutes

my stupid lil peanut oop brain tells me to make an object to solve every problem. I say shut the fuck up and learn ocaml, updates to come, gonna do gamedev in a functional lang (the worst fucking thing to do) but it should break my brain (in a good way)
