And this is if you *get* in. they don't pay rejected artists. $45 is WILD. They send their brochures across the country for these calls, they have a serious marketing budget, and I'm sure they get a ton of submissions as a result. but by all means ask for more money from both artists and the public

Submission fees for visual arts are wild in comparison to other fields -- if an actor has to pay for an audition, it's flat out a scam. Why do we accept this? Why does the potential for *maybe* selling our work (at an institution that isn't even actively TRYING to sell) justify submission fees?

Not to burn a bridge that doesn't exist with a local gallery, but for YEARS before even moving to Ohio I've been suspect of their practices. Calling a spade a spade; if you get chosen, they give you $5, that's how math works.

I once read thru my MFA advisor's own thesis, and at the end having no citations outside images of his own work, his bibliography was 38 images from his own MRI. I was so mad at how smart that was.

Finished my syllabi and canvas pages for fall semester already cause I only have 1 week of wet clay left in the studio and ya boi’s got a lot of nonsense to make!

I don't know the majority of the students but based on what I've seen these last few semesters, I made some educated guesses.

2 days in a row of print-related posts wow. Anyways working on syllabi, having my intermediate-level students submit semester-long inquiry proposals. Basically letting them create a conceptual fallback if their ideas run thin. So naturally I wanted to give them some examples.

anyways it was a fun moment of "oh yeah I'm literally paid to teach this, of course I know what I'm doing" mixed with "why didn't I catch that before I pulled the first print?"

blue layer printed fine on its own, which told me the plate wasn't the issue -- the ink was. So I got to do some minor chemistry! Oily ink repels inks that are less greasy. So I dried out the yellow ink with mag carb then greased up the blue with burnt plate oil.

Problem was, when I pulled the first print, the final blue layer was almost completely absent. The yellow layer underneath was printed on top of the pink / light blue layers fine, so I decided to proof the blue plate by itself.

I think about .2% of my followers are here for my #printmaking so I wanted to share an experience I had yesterday where my rolodex of knowledge came in handy. I was printing an edition of intaglio prints that combined 2 dry pre-printed layers, #silkscreen + #collagraph, with 2 fresh #etching plates

Consistently thinking about how easy it can be to dehumanize, only to realize that’s engaging in the same exact violent behavior they’re doing.
