Retired asylum officer here. Government taking of property based on race is discrimination, but on its own does not rise to the level of persecution for purposes of asylum in the U.S. it’s certainly not genocide.

This is not deportation. They are being abducted and sent to a concentration camp in a third country. A concentration camp is defined as a prison where people are sent without having been convicted of anything.

So relieved to learn that Kilmar Abrigo Garcia is still alive.

So they violated a court order prohibiting his being sent to El Salvador, and worse yet, they sent him to a prison full of the very gang members that he fears. I would be very surprised if he is still alive.
It is mystifying why this part of the story is never mentioned.

The most tragic aspect of his case has been completely ignored by the press. To get withholding of removal, Mr. Abrego Garcia convinced a judge that he was MORE LIKELY THAN NOT to be persecuted by gang members if returned to El Salvador (a much higher standard than is required for asylum). I too started kicking my desk violently when I heard you state, inaccurately, that Kilmer Abrego Garcia is in the US illegally. In fact, Mr. Abrego Garcia was granted withholding of removal by a judge in 2019, and has had work authorization ever since. (Cont’d)

I can’t watch/read much anymore- it gives me panic attacks. I like Rachel Maddow though, because 1)she starts each show with footage of people all over the country protesting; 2) she never shows footage of His Orange Highness. Prefers to cover what he does, not what he says.

The reason he came to the U.S. to begin with is that he feared for his life in El Salvador. Whoever he feared, and whatever the reason, a judge ruled that he has a well founded fear of persecution in El Salvador & granted him asylum. I think he’s probably dead.
