Percentage of the US population born abroad, 1850-
2019. The first peak of the Immigration U is made up primarily of immigrants from Europe. In the second peak of the Immigration U, immigrants hail from other sending countries (50 percent from Latin America and 25 percent from Asia). CREDIT: Illustration by Patti Isaacs. Underlying data from US Census Bureau.
Net fiscal impact in 2012, per capita, including all levels of govern-ment, by age and immigrant generation.
First generation and 2nd generation migrants are net contributors when they are 20-60 years old
All groups of migrants are less likely to be incarcerated than US born in the last decades
Legal and documented migrants are generally less likely to commit several types of crime in 2012-18 than US born
Iβll post & repost this as many times as needed during the next 4 years. Migrants in the US:
- Represent the same % of the US population as in 1850-1900
- Pay *more* in taxes than what they get in public services (especially the 2nd generation)
- Are *less* likely to commit crimes

So cool you're going to New Orleans! I would recommend checking the Gambit to see what's live when you'll be there. My personal favorites are "Maple Leaf Bar", Tipitinas, "Dos Jefes" (on Saturdays for Sunpie Barnes), "Snug Harbor" and "The Spotted Cat". Let me know if you want some restaurant recs!
