The problem with this is that you can't rebuild trust in institutions by acknowledging that the cranks have a seed of truth, that just gives power to the cranks that they're going to use to keep tearing down the institutions because their arguments, and this is important, aren't in good faith.

Lots of horrible and dangerous people are right about "some things." it's even easier when you lie about what you've said in the past, too.

I never really grasped how revisionist history worked until recent years.

A thing a lot of people don't understand about journalism is that a big part of the job is chasing leads that don't pan out and never get published.

a boring point I would make on blocklists is that journalists will often need to follow questionable people, because it can be part of our jobs, so you may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater by subscribing to any list that's based on "everyone who follows X or Y"
