A mistake which cost me a lot of dev time recently was trying to plan a progression system without properly establishing a game loop beyond the moment-to-moment action.
It was like playing Stardew Valley without having an 'end of day' or energy bar, things which provide a lot of critical context.

Ah, in that case I suppose Godot or Unity would be best.
The most important thing is to pick an engine, pick a simple game to replicate (like Pong or Flappy Bird), then follow a tutorial and complete it.
Sounds a bit boring, but small and simple projects are the best for learning the ropes.
Haven't used it in a while, but I recall GameMaker had a pretty intuitive visual coding system.
That was my first engine

For linear re-sounds like that one, do you usually arrange all the ambiance layers linearly too? Or do you use a middleware to generate some of them organically first?
Just took a listen to your God of War re-sound. Fantastic stuff! I know the focus was on the axe, but the surrounding ambiance and foley sounds were brilliant too.
