Dear SHARP organizers,

Thank you for accepting my pre-formed panel for the SHARP conference this year in Rochester, NY.

Unfortunately, I currently do not feel safe or comfortable travelling to and spending money in the United States given the current political climate. As a gender-queer, disabled scholar, I stand with my colleagues who are experiencing unprecedented discrimination and difficult times in the United States. I know that many fellow Canadians feel the same way, and I'm sure many international colleagues have similar feelings as well.

I urge you to consider transitioning this conference to a hybrid model so that international, trans and gender-queer, LGBTQ2S+, disabled, BIPOC, caregiving, and precariously employed colleagues can still present their incredible work with the SHARP community.

If you are unable to transition this conference to a hybrid model, then I regret that I will have to decline this invitation to present. I hope that you can find a suitable replacement so that my fellow panelists still have the opportunity to present their work.

Thank you, stay well.

There has been some conversation re: what to do about the #SHARP conference, given that it is in the US this year. This is my email to the conference organizers asking them to transition to hybrid.
