This is a fundamental point that 99% of higher-ed coverage, and 100% of immig coverage, have missed.

I was at a similar one in NY. Henry Rollins almost started a riot telling everyone to buy the water, set the water stand on fire, and then sell it back to them for $15 a pop to put the fire out.

While the near-total loss of the NEH is horrific, it has been death by a 1000 cuts for decades: the loss of summer seminars abroad, of postdoc funding, of all of the tiny bits of $ that enlightened K-12 teachers' & junior faculty's work & lives. Sarah & I will be mostly fine; the next gen won't.

Aside from the obvious direct harm, what's so irritating is that a handful of spoiled ignorant assholes are breaking things that we all built together. They weren't content to own almost everything, they had to wreck what little they didn't own. It's vandalism on a mass scale and has to be punished

Yosemite halts camping reservations, with no timetable for their return Yosemite halts camping reservations, with no timetable for their return at a time when federal employees are being laid off

Want to go visit the national parks this year?
Sorry.
The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired.

Circulations This year's symposium takes the notion of circulation as a starting point to consider not only how manuscripts produced in various scribal cultures circulated knowledge, ideas, values, and information...

The 17th Annual Schoenberg Symposium starts this Thursday evening (EST). Registration remains open through the end of the event. We look forward to seeing you there in person or online! The theme is CIRCULATIONS. Details at the link. (It's FREE)

Got to see some old friends under new light at the medieval manuscripts by (electric) candlelight event put on by the Robbins Library. Really incredible to see the illumination under the flicker of warm light after years of seeing things lit up in the lab.
