Got off work early and went on another run.

Hit my 900th Strava-tracked activity and got the 5K down to 5:03/km.

Surely the speed gains are infinitely sustainable.

I'm tempted. But we're already running so many other things that the rest of the university doesn't use, and I don't want to "add" to that pile.

I don't have a ticketing system at work (yay, budgets), but I do have two Outlook folders that I sort specific requests into so I can keep track of volume.

I mean, a good couch does deserve a viking funeral.

I'm *really* hoping he measured incorrectly.

I want to cut that couch in half.

He thinks he's going to get a couch into a van, but I don't trust his ability to measure things.

So I'm showing up with a reciprocating saw, just in case.

I immediately discovered after getting this that "hey, glasses don't really fit under tight hockey masks...I probably want to see softballs being fired at my head".

So I'm going for an unneeded eye test (had one last year) today just to get contacts. Just for a single-day Halloween tournament.

It's really a coin flip at excelling or crossing the finish line in the back of an ambulance.

Went on another run (and a tad further).

Figured out how to pace myself (?) and somehow cut off 44 seconds a kilometer.

My pace is now (somehow) better than the person who roped me into this.

My institution rolled out the Blackboard LMS for the last year of my undergrad and it was a buggy disaster. They promptly dropped it after that year.

Which is about the time Blackboard's market share started to dramatically crater.

Blackboard's Parent Company Anthology Files for Bankruptcy Anthology, the ed-tech firm that owns Blackboard, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it grapples with more than $1 billion in debt.

Can't say I'm shocked Anthology Inc. (merged with Blackboard in late 2021) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

A softball team.

Outside of my job, I’ve:
• Taught three ‘Full Stack Web Development’ classes
• Screened a film I made at the Hamilton Film Festival
• Won the B-Division championship at the my curling club
• Was named Team MVP for my 2024 softball team
• Signed up for my first 5K run

It's been a busy 14 months.

• Served as the interim (4 months) program coordinator for CPD's ‘Health and Wellness Coach Professional Certification Program’
• Delivered a workshop on ‘Using Obsidian for (Educational) Project Management’ during the @mcmasteruniversity.bsky.social 'Teaching & Learning Month'

• Have aided the delivery of 28 separate course offerings
• Been variously involved (curriculum design, development, management, etc.) in the launch of 9 brand new courses
• Have begun the exploration of the development of 19 brand new courses

In the last 14 months I’ve:

• Launched and continue to oversee a new learning management system

And in a place where getting replies from IT can *literally* take months, this is going to be a real pain in the ass.

But we're apparently *so* bad at falling for phishing attempts that they've recently changed it so that you can't just release emails.

You need to request that an email be released, and the 'tenant admin will determine if the request should be approved or denied'.

My work implemented Microsoft's 'email quarantine' a few years ago in an effort to combat phishing attempts. It flags potentially bad emails, and you get a message prompting you to review and/or release it.

Which is honestly good, because we don't want people falling for phishing attempts.

The weather is nice and cool, so I've been heading to the office early so I can get a walk in before work starts.

OpenAI employees are very excited about how well their new AI tool can create fake videos of people doing crimes and have definitely thought through all the implications of this

I splurged on a nice office chair when we transitioned to work-from-home at the beginning of COVID. I work from home 3 days a week still, so it's been great.

If you can, find a place that sells refurbished/used business furniture.

I managed to get a $1400USD chair for $350 CAD.
