Dangers of short-term therapy for CPTSD
Many charities as well as the UKβs NHS seem to have a model whereby a limited number of therapeutic hours (usually no more than 20) are provided for clients to address post-traumatic issues including ...
Questioning the idea that short-term counselling for people trying to recover from/live with child abuse helps rather than harms.
Charities raise money for what ends?
How many of us are left feeling worse than ever + like we're the one with the problem?

These resources all look amazing - and the iatrogenic harm concept - thank you so much. Am tangled in so much re-traumatisation that I've just touched on here.

Having finally seen a counsellor last yr, I live in a confusing state between denial & knowing I was abused a lot. The counsellor also helped me see how dissociation contributes to such confusion, as well as family & FMS etc. I'm trying to find ways to communicate what happened, maybe just to myself

Even recently, that child psychiatrist (now retired) said #csa is harmless and enjoyable for some children. It's only when they try to do it to other children that it becomes a problem.

In my 20s, I seemed to be having psychotic episodes and found myself in an early intervention service where I was prescribed anti-psychotics. When trauma/ptsd was mentioned, that psychiatrist parent said, among other things, "what have YOU got to be traumatised about?"

Aged 16, I saw a counsellor for the first time, and left home. The parent stopped that counsellor from seeing me again, and I didn't see another one until my 40s.

Having a child psychiatrist for a parent when being abused as a child is one place to start. Makes for some good gaslighting.
