It appears I’ve been neglecting this account - it’s been kinda hectic in personal and professional lives.

Ill defo try harder

It’s one I’m incredibly passionate and proud of. I can say I helped people and make a difference by sharing our story and learning lots of new skills, making new colleagues and new friends with the shared passion.

Speech therapy changes lives. It’s that simple! It’s amazing!

Me; Dave. A plain dad, with a passion to help his son, and no formal qualifications started to give things back to an amazing profession. I continue to do so now. Nearly 10 years on. George can talk. Lots. Lots and lots. And I still love being part of an incredible under pressure profession.

I met lots of people who loved hearing progress, highs and lows. First of all, I met Gillian Rudd, from BCU and my world opened up!

I became an expert by experience and took part if sooo much that me, Dave, a plain dad never thought I could do.

I was super impressed with not only the service here in Worcestershire, but the people and professionalism of speech therapy and its staff. I began sharing videos of progress on Twitter.

That’s when it went isnane for me and my advocacy grew exponentially.

Without going into time scales etc, we plodded on. Lots of calls, emails, visits, at home, children centres & schools. We were unwittingly part of a very large, proactive team all wanting the best and most positive outcome - not just for our boy, but us. Adults. Worrying - the challenge was in…

Indeed, it was. Our journey began. It was tough. Really tough and very worrying. Our boy was different. So many what ifs. So many down times. So many concerns for our boy…

Here in Worcestershire, we got lucky. We waited a couple of months for contact with SLT Worcestershire and that was it…

Back when my son was 2.5 years old, our health visitor shared concerns about the late or no development of sounds, pronunciations, which we also had worried about.

Between us, we agreed a refer ally should be made to SLT to get him checked and some help if it was deemed needed…

It appears, I’ve had dozens of #SpeechTherapists follow me on here! Some I recognise, some I don’t!

So, let me explain why o advocate for the profession and am so heavily involved in quite a few ways….

Got to love a good old 5 mile walk on the Malvern Hills - with the lab funding the filthiest puddle to lie in!

When heading home from a night shift, the sunrise is immense and you have your drone in the car!

Having been a mental health first aider for many years, I like to look out for people. I myself have suffered poor mental health in the last 18 months due to losing someone close. So yes, that’s close to my heart too

I still work in the blue light services.
But I’ve also got more passions. Fingers in many pies so to speak, but I lovey helping people and making a difference.

I’m heavily involved in speech therapy around the UK, and research groups around the world having had personal experiences of it.

I’ve been promoting and practicing road safety, in various roles for many years.

I’ve been on the tele, presented at shows, written articles & even got my own blog page.

It’s a topic I’m passionate about having picked up the pieces when it’s gone wrong…
