Jungkook: Pinch

The pinch is the most brutal hold. You wrap your hand around it and squeeze as hard as you can. Of all the holds, it favors raw strength over technique. With Jungkook's love of exercise, I bet he would love this hold.

Taehyung: Pocket

From little finger pockets to big huecos, pockets are just kinda...weird. You want me to stick my what in where? The thing about pockets is that you never know what you're going to find living in them. A bird nest? A beehive? Like Taehyung, they're both mysterious and fun.

Jimin: Crimp

Crimps are small edges that can only fit the tips of the fingers. Like Jimin, they're the smallest hold but require both strength and technique. They tend to favor people with smaller hands, so I bet they would be Jimin's favorite.

Two chickenheads that are used to form an anchor for a climb, which is the main part of the climbing system that protects the climbers from falling. In this anchor, two slings are girth hitched around the thinner parts of the chickenhead, close to the wall, such that they won't slip off. The climbing rope is then tied to those slings.

Hoseok: Chickenhead/Knob

The chickenhead hold has a bulbous shape. Of course, this reminded me of CNS 🐓🍜🎶. But also, it's cool because it can form a natural anchor, a point of security, with very simple gear. It makes hard things accessible and fun, just like our dance leader and sunshine 🌞

A woman climbing an off-width crack. This is perhaps the most brutal type of climbing, requiring technique, strength and stamina. Sometimes, you've got to just stuff body parts in the crack until you figure out what works. The tape helps to protect your skin, and prevent clothes from getting caught. Tape wrapping by itself is an art.

A clean hand crack is a thing of beauty. A man climbs a splitter crack up a wall, jamming his hands and feet into the crack to step up the wall.

Yoongi: Crack

You climb crack by jamming body parts into it and pulling up with friction. Like Yoongi's flows, crack climbing is very technical. Crack climbers love to geek out about gear as much as Yoongi with his synths. By nature, its kinda painful but the reward is access to the biggest walls.

Seokjin: Jug

The jug is the easiest hold to use. It's big enough to wrap your whole hand around, so it's usually a good spot to rest and recuperate before moving on. Like Jin, it's a place to find comfort and security in the midst of difficulty. It's every climber's happy place.

Namjoon: Sloper

The mighty sloper is perhaps the most feared hold. They are rounded, curvy and smooth... much like Joon's pecs. More than any hold, they require excellent technique and mental fortitude. The trick is to slap onto it, keep your body close and use friction to your advantage 😏
