Didn't you hear? Democrats are literally the only people with any agency in the entire world. Other parties, other governments (foreign, state and local, etc), voters ...none of them are responsible for anything. ESPECIALLY voters.

This isn't spin it's reality. Royal fiat is exactly what you expect if you think Democrats are going to take inflexible positions and win elections. The Democratic coalition doesn't work that way, at least not yet. Maybe a few years of concentration camps will change your tune though.

this is EXACTLY my point. Could not have made it better myself. Democracy is about creating coalitions which means compromise is not just the sign of things being functional, it's the ideal state.

worker status not tied to a job is a different kind of visa.

the whole point of H1-B is that a particular employer has a particular slot they cannot fill other ways. workers get special immigration status tied to a particular job and lose that special status when they leave the job. this is absolutely not indentured servitude in any way shape or form.

feeling trapped in a toxic role, underpaid and scared to speak up is a feature of having a job anywhere other than shangri-la where all the ponies fart rainbow skittles.

I've worked in tech since 1993. I have never met a single solitary indentured servant (yes I realize it's a metaphor). I'm sure some companies abuse the system, just like I'm sure many companies abuse many systems.

Steve Earle once said "reality don't rhyme." I think sometimes reality just doesn't make a great story.

The low point of this dip on confidence often feels like the absolute worst to the person going through it but as I tell people it really is darkest before the dawn. When you feel your worst is when your confidence starts growing again.

There's a thing I know from doing change management called The Unlearning Curve and the short story is when learning new skills your confidence goes through a delayed dip because the first thing you need to learn is just how bad you are at your new skills, but this takes a minute.

Deactivating my account isn't enough for me. So I went through and deleted every single tweet I've ever made, every reply, and every like the interface would allow me to delete. If I could salt the earth behind I would.
