Though I try to stay humble, I'd say I'm probably the nation's top journalist when it comes to in-depth reporting on the Waitangi dildo strike. Even so, I hadn't picked up this piece of info until this week thespinoff.co.nz/politics/05-...

Insurer temporarily halts new policies in Westport due to flood risk The decision will be the first of many as the full force of climate change arrives, a researcher says.

There it is. Always, always follow the money. When insurers say they can't cover you because of climate change impacts you can finally understand it is real and is causing harm today.

Yes, this is a sub-tweet.

FB status update from PM Christopher Luxon

Several pictures of him meeting with locals, including two images in a tavern.

"With National, New Zealanders get a party with a plan to fix the basics and build the future for all Kiwis, for generations to come.
We've done a lot in just two years - and Kiwis can have certainty that over the coming year, National will continue working hard to realise New Zealand's potential and help all Kiwis get ahead.
Great fun sharing this message with folk in Wigram while out campaigning across Christchurch with our National MPs today."

The tragic loss of lives in NZ flooding events this week are climate change deaths. Media and govt are avoiding the topic.

Leaders and commentators must acknowledge the emerging reality of ordinary summer rainstorms carrying volumes of water akin to tropical cyclones of previous decades.

Meanwhile, in the middle of all this while people are knee deep in water, the absent PM proudly announces an election date…with no mention of any events either here or overseas. So out of touch, he’s on another planet.

So I hadn't bought something for my own stocking, and my kid is the sort of kid to find it un-plausible for there to be a whole entire stocking there missed by Santa. And I needed to replace a bottle anyway... so this year Santa brought Pāpā an entire bottle of whiskey and a blue V. Merry Christmas!
