I'm saying that Trump was clearly going to be, and has proven to be, even worse for the Palestinians. Those that voted for Trump or sat on their hands bear some responsibility for the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

It's a shame that US voters were more driven by hatred and lies than caring and logic.
Well at least more Palestinians have achieved peace now.
And the US ended up with Donald Trump and the situation got even worse. Oh well π€ͺ

I think the Supreme Court has done more to increase Trump's executive power.
The total impact of this bill is very poorly understood.
There is a lot that can be done to change the impact of laws by changing the way the laws are enforced. Trump hasn't changed immigration law, just its enforcement.
He'll sign it, but he has never read any of it. There are only two things in it that he cares about, tax breaks for the rich and billions to jail and expel brown people.

Every country has mixed economies with a sliding scale between "true socialism" and "rampant capitalism". Singapore is at the capitalist end with poor human rights and worker exploitation. Cuba is at the socialist end with low income, but scoring better than the US on literacy and healthcare.
30.06.2025 15:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've seen other data that mentions that the US has 20% or 21% of the world's prisoners, so 25% at some point in time is believable.
It is clear that the US incarceration rate is more than 3 times modern Western countries and it has very poor rehabilitation statistics.
The US is currently ONLY 5th on a per capita basis. It is beaten by 4 developing or third-world countries:
El Salvador; Cuba; Rwanda; Turkmenistan.
The US easily wins on absolute numbers.
Thanks for responding with evidence rather than with a gif or vague waffle.
I get the point that the MAID criteria was extended by the Supreme Court to add Track 2 and that there may be some people whose lack of financial and social support could be a driving factor.

You are right, in many cases PIP is used to enable people to work.
My post wasn't great. I guess I was just annoyed at the idea that people receiving PIP would rise up en masse against the government, with the implication that violence would be used as they had "nothing to lose". That's crazy π§.
Counting chickens yet to hatch!
"Critics of the U.S.-brokered peace deal are skeptical that it will work, as M23 is not a signatory to the agreement and has not been involved directly in the negotiations, and the Rwandan government denies formal links with the group"

21.06.2025 00:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Ironically, the people claiming PIP would have to demonstrate their ability to work against the government for this to be a threat and if they are capable of working against something then why aren't they capable of working for something.
There are better arguments you could have made.
And emigration of those with talent and those that disagree with the war (there's a lot of overlap). Also, Russia has an aging population and few immigrants.

About 1 in 5000 babies are born with ambiguous or atypical genitalia. So with 3.5 million births that's 700 babies a year that the Supreme Court will have to deal with.
19.06.2025 13:52 β π 10 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0In this New York Times article it is clearer that Sewell chose the AI character instance and chose to isolate himself and to think suicidal thoughts. I think it's probably truer to say that people convinced themselves to commit suicide while using ChatGPT.
If you are already depressed and lonely then spending hours "conversing" with a LLM which is reflecting back your own ideas and concerns is a really bad idea.
Asteroids are even more dead, but a lot more interesting and potentially useful to the whole population of Earth rather than just a few suicidal explorers.
