Paul Merton uses it a lot. Merton credits it to Arthur Haynes, an English comedian who you can find details of on Wikipedia. He used to work with Charlie Chester in the post-war years, and had his own TV show from 1956 onwards.

@cevni.bsky.social Cev, there's a movie on Prime called "The Triple Echo" from 1972 with Glenda Jackson AND OLLIE REED! Just seen it for the first time since about 1980 (it was a regular on Granada's late movie rota). Possibly Ollie's best performance, comedy and menace combined. Do check it out.

TPTV have an online catch-up service. Might check it on that UK only but I imagine a simple VPN set to UK would get you in. They have a liking for showing early Hammer right now.
