Still, not a bad movie by any means. Still better than The Last Airbender. Or Lady in the Water. Or The Happening. Shyamalan jokes aside, he's been doing a lot better recently. Trap, Knock at the Cabin and Old were all solid. So, kudos to you man, keep it up. Don't make another film like After Earth

-playing the pop star hosting the concert. The scenes between Hartnett and Donoghue feel genuine, and it makes me all the more disappointed that she's dropped two thirds of the way through the film. Like I said, the third act kind of falls apart, and I think her absence is a big part of that.

Speaking of Hartnett, I do think the strength of the movie is in the interactions between Hartnett and Alison Donoghue playing his daughter. Beyond the initial premise, this movie is very much a bizarre, twisted, father/daughter story. A fact emphasized by Shyamalan's owner daughter Saleka-

The premise itself is entertaining and definitely a creative twist on the horror genre. Even though the movie falls apart a little bit in the third act, the scenes in and around the concert are very fun, watching Josh Hartnett dance around all the law enforcement.

Saw a Shyamalan film that wasn't too bad. Or at least, segments of it were interesting. Trap is a fun take on the serial killer genre, with the plot centering around the killer as the main character. It follows him being lured to a concert that his daughter wants to go to.

This movie will make you uncomfortable in the right ways. It's well made, well acted and if you haven't seen it already, you should do so. BE WARNED: it's really gross. Like, there are a lot of really gross things in here. Which is intentional, and essential to the plot, but just be aware going in

The performances from Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are phenomenal. Both women are throwing everything they've got into each scene. The combination of the characters' jarring differences and uncomfortable parallels makes the entire movie a difficult, but incredibly worthwhile watch

I'm not going to say anything new and innovative here, but there is so much to rave about with this film. The effects are spectacular, a beautifully grotesque mixture of practical and CG effects that I desperately wish more films would follow the example of.

I should really do some of these little review vignettes closer to when the film/show was released so that they're more topical but oh well. Maybe I'll get better about that in the future. Anyway! The Substance!

I don't have much more to say other than to compliment Justice Smith and Jack Haven for their performances, as well as Alex G. and the numerous bands that contributed to the score and soundtrack. Go watch it and see what you take away from it

I think this film will resonate a lot with millennials, for a number of reasons that I don't want to spoil, but the overall themes of grief, growing up and stagnation are relevant for anyone. I don't know that everyone will necessarily WANT to see this film, but I think they should give it a chance.

Been putting this one off because it's hard to put into words my feelings on I Saw the TV Glow. Saw this movie eight months ago and I'm still not sure where it sits with me. It's an eerie, dream-like slow burn of a horror film that relishes in the use of liminal spaces, both physical and not.

Which is fine, I get that it's mostly Rumi's story, I just wish we got more of those two as well, particularly leading up the final fight and the parallels drawn between the three of them in Golden and This is What it Sounds Like.
Still, great movie, super fun to watch, would definitely recommend

You don't really get enough of Mira and Zoey. They are very much relegated to The Friends status. Not to say that they aren't their own characters, you can glean a lot about them based on the songs and scenes with Rumi

Oops, missed some days. That's okay, just gotta jump back in! K-pop Demon Hunters definitely lives up to the hype. Vibrant and expressive animation, with a fantastic sound track. I'm still humming the songs and week later, even did some other writing with This Is What It Sounds like on loop.

Colbert will be all right, maybe even better off. The world's his oyster and I'm sure MSNBC and Netflix will come calling. He could stand up the biggest late night YouTube channel in days. But they are just torching the Late Show, an institution, solely to appease a dictator. And that fucking sucks.

I should probably write some kind of extra critique about it but A) this ain't a formal review, and B) I don't want to. The movie was fun. I had fun watching it. I think just about anyone could watch this and also have fun. And that's really all I care to say on it. Go watch Nimona

As usual, I'm behind on everything, but I finally saw Nimona. Absolutely loved it. The animation is colorful and wild, the main characters are fleshed out and a delight to watch, and the central message is both incredibly relevant and deeply impactful. Just a great viewing experience
