Fascinating episode! Talking of Kipling, is there a parallel between Christopher and Kim - a boy freely ranging among and accepted by all cultures in India (in fact goes almost anywhere), who gets recruited into the imperial project, and educated, and has to face losing that freedom as he grows.

They've actually re-built the Oxford to Milton Keynes section but are really dragging their feet on beginning train services...

Wasn't English what happened when Danes tried to learn Anglo-Saxon (and vice versa?)

An absolutely top notch chivalric bromance. My wife introduced me to it many years ago. Cracking stuff.

Nice thought! Have you seen the 2007 Beowulf movie? Some interesting parallels between the origin of Grendel in that version, and the origin of the evil aspects of the Upside Down in later series ST...

Magicians of Caprona is the only DWJ I actually read as a child - now re-reading it (for the first time since then) before listening to the episode. I'm enjoying it much more this time!

The graphic is a short poem called "Travail":

I forge in fire and darkness, while my land
Still calls me with the voice of my own heart
The woods and fields of fair Beleriand -
The loom of music, and the hearth of art.
My longing wanders, but my flesh is bound
In dark and rusty pits to labour long
In flowerless hell beneath the wasted ground
Bereft of starlight and the Springs of Song.
But dare I flee from all my toil and pain
By crawling out across the Thirsty Plain?
What weapon could I forge to batter down
The dungeon-door and win the Iron Crown
With hate in my hand - and what would be the cost?
Should ever I regain the land I lost?

For the #TolkienTrewsday #TolkienTuesday theme of "Labour/Working" here's a short poem I wrote a long time ago. #Tolkien #Silmarillion

In my experience it's the conference areas. The accommodation is in lots of different places around the college buildings so there isn't really a separate accommodation area, while all the rooms are pretty close to the areas where the conference is happening.
