I wonder if he usually wrote on graph paper. I read someone observed him watching a film he was asked to score. They said he had a big writing pad that he was writing lots of musical ideas on, while watching the film. They said it was an unusual type of writing pad, but I can't recall the details.

I just finished watched this amazing programme made in 1965, where Alfred Hitchcock pays tribute to the documentary pioneer #JohnGrierson.

It can be seen in the UK via Sky Arts and Now TV. I would highly recommend it.
