In a new article over at Carbon Brief, I explore why the past three years – 2023, 2024, and 2025 – have been exceptionally warm. The main culprits turn out to be a combination of El Nino and internal variability, declining aerosols, and a strong solar cycle: www.carbonbrief.org/...

I have a new update to climate model-observation comparisons over at The Climate Brink, covering CMIP3, CMIP5, and CMIP6. Models perform well globally. The latest generation shows too much long-term warming but better reproduces recent trends: www.theclimatebrink....

Love the podcast. Have you thought about having Kate Raworth or Nate Hagens on? Both have interesting things to say about economics and the environment.

Sabine has really gone downhill, she doesn't seem to stick to the science now and just berates "activists". The only bit I agree on is that we are slow to act on climate and may not be motivated enough to do so until it's too late. The rest seems clickbait.

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

Just published, a land-mark paper by Annemarie Eckes-Shephard et al.! It assesses the performance of a new generation of Demography-enabled Dynamic Global Vegetation (D-DGVMs), that attempt to simulate the changing size and age structure of trees in forests.

While I love to have hope, the fact Reform is on 32% and Tories are second on 16% is really worrying to me. I struggle to see how the Greens can win outright, particularly in red wall etc. Reform's ILR policy would be a huge disaster for me personally.

Yeah, I don't think long covid and ME are that different barring perhaps lung damage etc. I think the PEM, fatigue pattern etc to me sound identical to what many like me had after flu or other post-viral ME cases.

This is beyond depressing my wife is Japanese and can't get dual citzenship so has ILR here. I have elderly mother here and my wife has elderly parents in Japan if she lost ILR it would be a disaster for us.

The true question right now is whether you believe in the moral character of the British public. If you do, you'll want to have the fight with Reform. You'll believe that the public will hate the idea of breaking up families, spying on & deporting people who've worked here for years.

TBH not sure there is room for two parties now Polanski has moved the Greens into left territory.

Because Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship & still has elderly parents in Japan she has chosen to stay a Japanese citizen. On top of that I'm severely disabled by long-term illness & she is my only carer and I have very little other family. Ending ILR would leave us in a very difficult situation

Farage's announcement on Indefinite Leave to Remain is a travesty. This will affect me personally. My wife of the past 15 years has lived and worked in the UK and paid her taxes all that time.

Yes he isnt a bad or immoral person like Boris was and he isnt loopy like Truss. But he isnt communicating a strong narrative and to keep Reform out needs to make sure ordinary people see economic benefits. Policy own goals like disability + winter fuel, freebies etc really didnt help.

Agreed, I've only so far heard Ed Davey calling out Musk. Sir Kier seems to lack compentent political instincts and be totally unsuited to todays political climate. He seems to have managed to disappoint almost everyone by not standing for anyone in particular.

Fionna this has to be the most depressing time politically in recent UK history. We seem to had have a run of poor PMs, without vision, charisma or morals. Does Starmer not realise what is at stake?

My thoughts exactly, makes Starmer look weak, desperate with no ideas of his own. Milliband for all his faults when was leader at least seems to have principles and ideas. Starmer just copies Farage and Trump, and betrays his voter base.
