Two headed giant is still 2v2 (each team has one “enemy”, the other team). As I understand it, the issue is when you have 1v1v1v1 free for alls (each “team” has three enemies). You’re not politicking or colluding with opponents in 2hg. You’re just defeating your enemy.

Having not been on twitter before the nazi takeover, but hearing a lot about it, I hear it wasn’t a great place to be anyway. I’m not entirely surprised as bsky (who is made by the same person who made twitter) picks up popularity it also sees the same resurgence of shitty people and bad moderation.

all of those are primarily competitive formats. With different card pools. EDH is a primarily casual format. We’re already splitting hairs on what kind of edh people play. Splitting it further just means we’re adding a third format. Like, tEDH w/limited card pool is just a new format.

Reducing the card pool, maybe helps? But cedh will still exist. And then we’d just have casual edh (cedh if you will), and competitive edh, and this new third thing. And people will probably want to play the new thing casually. The formats just keep multiplying!

WotC has a little control over that market in many ways, but I agree with you there. It’s definitely a systemic/company decision issue more than a player issue, which is where I take the real grievances with.

I like what @danaroach.bsky.social did for EDH in his area - just start playing it with another friend. Show up, jam games, go home. If you’re consistent, people will start asking about it and maybe even show up with a deck. It’ll hopefully pick up steam and take off from there.

I’m not saying that only $ makes the difference, but the barrier for entry is higher than it needs to be for just dipping your toes into a format. I want to compete, but I don’t want to spend what I’d put on a commander deck for an experience I’m not even sure I’d like. It’s a bad investment.

It’s not that you are going to go 3-0 first try or anything, I’m saying it wouldn’t even feel close. It’s a lose lose when you either get stomped or spend hundreds to thousands to get a deck that can compete.

It would be easier if the formats weren’t “play this $1000 deck or go 0-3 every week, oh also this deck won’t matter when Modern Horizons X comes out”, it gets pretty disheartening.
