I think it is just telling of just how much the ostensible “liberal” media hates liberal voters.

Some animal shelters will give away or otherwise help people afford pet food, so the pets can stay with their owners instead of going into shelters. If you are considering surrendering, tell them why and maybe they can help you keep your pet(s) at home.

If you are donating to help people facing SNAP cuts (and I hope you are!), think also of animal shelters. When money gets tight, a lot of people surrender their pets. Folks shouldn't have to choose between eating and keeping their beloved companions.

They say strip clubs are the surest early indicator of a recession, and this is bad.

(That would include both immigrants who cannot vote at all, and people who moved to NYC from out of state and haven't changed their registration.)

I'm very curious what the explanations are. That is very plausible, but remember that Bloomberg won his first mayoral term as a Republican and then ran as an independent.

I also wonder if it might be that a larger share of the population are not eligible to vote in NYC than in the 80s-90s.

This is a classic form of voter intimidation—making people feel like it’s not safe to go to the polls. It moments like this where we need to summon our courage & vote anyhow. Vote in the tradition of the people who marched in Selma to secure the right to vote.

Huh. Seems notable that voting has decreased from the 80s and 90s even as the population of NYC has surged.

Lets look at another example. ICE shot an American citizen and food bank worker in Los Angeles. After being released from hospital, he is facing charges of assault. Carlos Jimenez’s lawyer said that Jimenez got out of his car to tell ICE agents that students would soon be assembling for their school bus at the place where their vehicles were blocking part of the road. Then masked agents drew a gun on Jimenez who returned to his car, putting it into reverse. Officers then shot him. Tricia McLaughlin claimed that Jimenez “attempted to run officers over by reversing directly at them without stopping” claiming that it is “another example of the threats our ICE officers are facing day in and day out as they risk their lives to enforce the law and arrest criminals.” His lawyer denies this, saying he was trying to back up to get around their vehicles. In this example, no video exists of the altercation, and so again we have to ask ourselves if we trust McLaughlin.

ICE is prohibited from using deadly force against an evading target, but can justify it if they say they are in danger. Immigration officials have shot into 4 cars in recent weeks. In 3 cases they said the target was driving toward them, when it seems more likely the drivers were trying to escape:
