You’ve got to invest in the world, you’ve got to read, you’ve got to go to art galleries, you’ve got to find out the names of plants. You’ve got to start to love the world and know about the whole genius of the human race. We’re amazing people.

Universities teaching literature students how to cope with long novels Critics blame GCSE English for deterring teenagers from the subject, describing the literature syllabus as boring and repetitive

I think we’re really going to have to do a lot more of this. A massive deprogramming so that people can read more than ten words at a time without anxiety.

I truly believe that reading, learning, organizing my thoughts, reviewing my notes, synthesizing, writing, editing, and revising written material are all creative practices. I wish to preserve and expand my capacity for these transformative tasks by practising them and not outsourcing them.

one of the more endearing human behaviors imo is "tell 'em i say hi." even with ppl we don't know sometimes, if they make ppl we care about happy and you know they're on the line you just give a quick little "hi". we're like birds, just constantly making little companion calls to each other

Why should 🇨🇦 create a new civil defence corps?

Because we’re among the only NATO countries that doesn’t train its population in emergency response, first aid and cyber threats — and we need everyone’s talents to meet the crises ahead.

Thinking of the library security guard's words again this morning.

Our riding elected the Conservative candidate in a very close race. Voter turnout was around 39%

Me, to the security guard at my local library, packed with people voting: "Busy evening."

Him: "I'm glad to see it. If we don't vote, we lose."
