As we come together as a city to support the grieving, uplift the survivors, and we must recommit to building a New York where all lives are valued and protected.

I send strength to those who were injured and all those impacted by this horrific act.

This tragedy has shaken our city. Every New Yorker deserves to be safe—whether at work, at home, or simply going about their day.

I am heartbroken by the senseless loss of four lives yesterday at 345 Park Avenue. Wesley LePatner, Julia Hyman, Aland Etienne, and NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, were beloved colleagues, family members, and community members.

My heart is with their loved ones feeling the pain of immeasurable loss.

Yesterday, the @council.nyc.gov Committee on Health held a public hearing on a package of bills that I introduced to improve childcare safety and accountability in honor of Nicholas to ensure no other family goes through a similar tragedy.

Nicholas Feliz Dominici. This beloved one-year-old child was full of love for his family.

But in September 2023, his life was cut short after being exposed to fentanyl at his daycare – the place where his parents trusted he would be safe.

The reality is everyone needs accessibility at some point in their life.

We cannot stay silent while proven pathways to college and success are dismantled.

I stand with the TRiO community in calling on Congress to reject this proposal and protect the future of our students. #ProtectTRiO

TRiO opened doors of opportunity for me—and for millions of first-gen, low-income, & historically marginalized students, from dense urban areas to rural towns.

Proposing their elimination is not only short-sighted—it’s a direct attack on equity, mobility & the American promise of education for all.

Since 1964, TRiO has empowered over 6 million students across the country: motivating, assisting and equipping low-income, first-generation youth to successfully graduate from middle, high school, and college through mentoring, counseling, workshops, and after-school and summer programs.

As a proud alumna of TRiO Upward Bound at Bronx Community College, I am outraged by the FY26 presidential budget proposal to eliminate *ALL* TRiO programs.

These programs are not extras—they are lifelines.
