I’m realizing I’ve hardly shared books from authors I’ve worked with!! I need to get better about this!

Not me getting TWO books delivered today from two published authors I’ve worked with! @crystalmrose.bsky.social has a five book series! One of the main characters losses some hearing after a detonated bomb goes off. So if you like blue aliens, this is the book for you!!

There are few negative points thus far. The continuous speaking. But that is improving as the story progresses. There are some “hidden” conversations behind Yuki back, which is unpleasant. I find it mildly weird that some characters feel the need to explain her Deafness to other hearing characters.

I adore that he instantly wanted to pick it up. I may be mildly obsessed with Oushi. I wonder why there wasn’t more of a romantic connection between him and Yuki during their time growing up and look forward to learning more about him.

However.There is a TON more typing and writing down then I would have expected and even more use of sign language then I would have ever dreamed of. The amount of characters learning sign so early on is also, inspiring, and hopeful. Especially the main guy, Itsuomi.

There are still a lot of typical hearing characters. For example they still just speak as if Yuki can understand everything even when it’s clarified that she wouldn’t be able to lip read 100% accurate. They still just, speak.

The major bonus is they have a”sign language collaborator” which seems to be equivalent to a sensitivity reader.They ensure the signs they are depicting are correct and clear.I adore Yuki.She is so cute.will admit I was nervous at first but over all the story and the progression has been impressive.

So far I love this story. I’m impressed by the work going into representing a Deaf character.

Awkward moment when barns and noble messages me on Instagram about this…

A manga page being held open by my hand. In the middle of the page, there is a security sticker, obscuring some of the drawings in the middle of the manga.

I just HATE when barns and noble does this. I typically try to go to other places more local owned. But this one book was only available at this specific b&n. I noticed this specific location does this to many of their manga. 😡

I keep finding more and more books that are said to have a deaf character. Best of all they are supposedly LGBTQIA+ so I’m kind of thinking about sharing my wish list.
