RESISTANCE AGAINST CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS ๐Ÿ“šRECS

Stories help us name whatโ€™s wrong, even when the world at large wonโ€™t. Books donโ€™t just entertain, they expose the truth. Fiction has ALWAYS been a mirror, and sometimes itโ€™s a warning. Right about now, I think we need both. Eyes open, friends. #booksky

On Sundays She Picks Flowers is a gruesome tale of intergenerational trauma that was brimming with as much trueness as surreality. It demands a deeper lens and a willingness to look beneath the horror to what lies underneath. What I found there will be with me for quite some time. #booksky

Starting today the Fantasy Finisherโ€™s book club will switch over to Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri! We read Empire of Sand in the month of November and collectively loved it! Canโ€™t wait to dive in the last installment in this duology. Find us on fable via the link in my bio! #booksky

Six Wild Crowns by Holly Race is the sapphic, feminist fantasy retelling that I never knew I needed! I am honestly surprised, despite a decades long obsession with the Tudor era, how much Iโ€™m loving this spin on it. What are you all reading this weekend? #booksky

What is the ONE BOOK that if you see it in the background on someoneโ€™s shelf, you will immediately follow them?

Mine is A Song of Legends Lost by M.H. Ayinde. It signals a love of diverse epic fantasy, queernorm worlds, & championing debut authors; to me that meansโ€ฆinstant book besties!!!

A bit of a mixed bag for October but such a good trade off for two 5 star reads:
โœจThe Land of the Living and the Dead (phenomenal series overall) and โœจBloodtide by Sophie Burnham (the most underhyped series to exist)

What was your top read in the month of October? #booksky

Queernorm stories build worlds where queerness exists w/out explanation or judgment, where identity doesnโ€™t have to be defended to be real. Even when queer characters arenโ€™t at the center, the absence of prejudice reshapes the story itself, and that is powerful. Hereโ€™s my underrated faves! #booksky

โ€œIn times of uncertainty we can dig deep into the dark feminine and, like the Hindu goddess Durga, arm ourselves with many weapons to provide protection for ourselves or others.โ€

Tales of the Dark Feminine by V. Castro is a beautifully illustrated compilation of powerful female legends. #booksky

Hand holding a book titled the lighthouse at the edge of the world by JR Dawson.

I love the feeling of getting what feels like a personalized recommendation by a bookish friend and The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World by JR Dawson is one of those books. It is a queer contemporary fantasy about life, loss, and family and Iโ€™ve been warned to have the tissues handy! #booksky

October is Substance Use Prevention Month & stories of addiction and recovery remind us that healing is not linear, and that there is no single โ€œrightโ€ path to recovery. Representation gives language, visibility, and hope to those who may feel alone in their journey. Here are some recs! #booksky

Three image tiles. The first image tile is part of the cover for SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN, highlighting the title. The second image tile is Fred Savage sitting in his bed in THE PRINCESS BRIDE, looking wary and asking, "Is this a kissing book?" The third image tile is a xenomorph from Alien, jaws open, looming through steam and darkness, and saying, "...Kind of."
