Had this exact same thing happen. Door was locked. Couldn’t be picked. Was a hint to maybe explore the dungeon they just that moment entered to find the key. Spent over half an hour arguing about whether to keep trying the door anyway.

That also makes it easier to answer when asked. All skills require practice, but being good at basketball always starts with "Here, bounce this ball"
